Danny, in many contexts your points are well taken.
However, self-defense is a distinct context, as in the Israeli / “Palestinian” conflict. The simple test is to ask what would happen if one side unilaterally stopped. In this case the answer is obvious. That can’t be evaded with - everyone play nice! Justice is relevant. As is the future. There is no shared values.
The wider case is Islamic-totalitarianism as a movement which includes 9/11. In the name of justice, the right to life & self defense, it must be excised.
You can’t make people think, but you can make genocidal cultures incapable of doing you harm if you have the strength and courage. That’s the issue here.
Jay, I think you've missed (and proved) the point of my essay. Not everything has to come down to whatever our personal political positions happen to be. Maybe give it another read?
